Project Goal

To improve the quality of mental health care in high schools by introducing a LifeSavers program that helps students become more aware and active in their classmates' mental health.

Project Synopsis

I.C.E. stands for Inclusiveness, Community Health, Education. This team was charged with bringing health to the public school system. I.C.E. chose to address the task of mental health in high schools. They introduced a best practice program from Illinois to Louisiana. The Lifesavers Program is a teen suicide, peer pressure prevention program. LifeSavers are high school students who have gone through intense training sessions, learning how to listen to their classmates, look for warning signs and help classmates with their problems. The program promotes positive communication, positive role models, self-esteem, trust and respect.
